Iowa State to wear matte helmets for select games
The matte trend is sweeping the nation, and it's only a matter of time before we'll be seeing matte at all kinds of awards shows on the red carpet. In the meantime, Iowa State is joining the charge, as the Cyclones will be trying out a special red matte helmet during "select" games in the 2014 season.
“I’m a traditionalist,” Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads said in the school's official release. “However, this helmet provides us a chance to test different designs while staying within the concept of our school colors and brand.”
We only have the one picture to go off of right now, but it really doesn't look bad at all. It's a slight tweak from the typical cardinal red helmet, and matte does look good during day games.
My stance on uniform issues is the same as it always is: If the players like it, more power to them. Maybe this will help push ISU to a few more wins than last year's 3-9 mark.
