Grambling State's new interim president Cynthia Warrick has made a strong impression during her first week on the job: She has fired athletic director Aaron James and men’s basketball coach Joseph Price, according to The News-Star.

Price lasted just two seasons at Grambling, losing 52 of the 57 games he coached, including an 0-28 record in 2012-13. But Grambling's problems did extend beyond the court.

Even if Grambling had fared better than a 5-24 (3-15 SWAC) record in '13-14, the team would have been ineligible to participate in the postseason because of low academic progress rate scores. The team will be eligible for the postseason in 2014-15.

More from the News-Star:

“I didn’t foresee it coming, but I do understand when you change president’s — I’ve been in the system long enough — a lot of times the president’s have the people they want to bring into different positions, and I do understand that,” James said.

The football program also went through its share of controversy last year.

In October, members of the football team refused to play in a game against Jackson State, writing in a letter to the school's administration that they were concerned about their health, "facilities, equipment, travel arraignments, summer camp arraignments, alumni association and friends of football funding, and our head coach."

Most of the complaints had to do with sub-standard conditions in their weight room and traveling by bus to far away games while other programs took flights.
