Emmanuel Mudiay denies eligibility issues led to playing overseas
Star recruit Emmanuel Mudiay and his family denied eligibility issues were a factor in his decision to play overseas next season instead of attending SMU, CBS Sports' Sarah M. Kazadi reports.
Mudiay, who announced on Monday he would not be playing at SMU, attended Prime Prep Academy in Dallas and is a potential top pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Prime Prep, which may be shut down for academic shortcomings, has a mixed history of athletes gaining NCAA eligibility.
Mudiay's brother, Steph, told CBS Sports that Prime Prep's issues did not contribute to Emmanuel's choice to skip college.
“There's no truth to that. People have been speculating that anyway. Two years ago, there was an incident about eligibility issues and there were a lot of questions about whether the school was qualified or not. So I think it just went from there.”
Mudiay will join a short list of players, headlined by Brandon Jennings, who chose to play professionally instead of in the NCAA before entering the NBA.
