National title game expected to bring $300 million to Dallas area
The Dallas area is expected to bring in more than $300 million and 60,000 out-of-state fans when it hosts the college football national championship game in January, reports the Dallas Morning News.
The Texas comptroller’s office provided estimates for the game, which will be played Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the home venue of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. In the past three years, the stadium has hosted a Super Bowl and the NCAA's Final Four.
According to the report, $10.7 million will be earmarked for the game, and a trust fund of anticipated revenue was set up to help pay for expenses.
Expected game attendance includes 92,000 ticketed and 12,500 credentialed visitors, and an additional 18,000 visitors, who will be in town but not attend the game, are also expected.

The report projected $308.6 million in total spending and $16.1 million in tax revenue, including $2.2 million for Arlington and Dallas. Among the variables used to calculate the numbers are ticket prices (estimated at $200-$800) and a 10 percent possibility that a Texas team will be in the game, driving down the out-of-state attendance.
This season marks the first year of the College Football Playoff after the Bowl Championship Series was used to determine a national champion from 1998-2013.
