The Big 12 Conference is holding its Media Days this week, and as the media completed their preseason voting, it was revealed that TCU defensive end Devonte Fields was the pick for Defensive Player of the Year.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson said didn't know what to expect from Fields because he took a medical redshirt following a foot injury in 2013.
"I was kind of surprised Devonte Fields was (the pick) because he hadn't played a year ago," Patterson said. "I haven't watched him since you watched him."
Fields won the league's defensive player of the year award as a freshman in 2012 when he registered 53 total tackles and 10 sacks.
