Austin Chatman, Creighton's leading returning scorer, will have surgery on his right thumb Tuesday, the school announced.

Chatman, who will be a senior in the fall, needs his radial collateral ligament reattached. After the surgery, he is expected to spend two months being limited to conditioning and drills while wearing a cast. His recovery timetable should have him back before the start of the season in November.

Chatman is the only Bluejays starter from last season returning and has started 71 straight games for Creighton. In 2013-14, he averaged 8.1 points and 4.4 assists and was named to the Big East All-Tournament Team.

Creighton will be adjusting to life without the graduated Doug McDermott, who led the nation in scoring last season and was drafted 11th by the Denver Nuggets before immediately being traded to the Chicago Bulls in June's NBA draft.
