Duke's Hud Mellencamp, son of John Mellencamp, faces alcohol charge

Duke walk-on cornerback Hud Mellencamp, the son of singer John Mellencamp, has been charged with consuming alcohol as a minor, reports the Indianapolis Star.

Duke walk-on cornerback Hud Mellencamp, the son of singer John Mellencamp, has been charged with consuming alcohol as a minor, reports the Indianapolis Star. 

The charge is a misdemeanor and was filed on July 10 in Monroe County, Indiana​. Mellencamp is 20 years old and from Bloomington, Indiana, which is in Monroe County. An initial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Monroe Circuit Court.

Mellencamp, along with his younger brother, Speck, and another man, is also currently facing felony battery charges stemming from a fight last July 29. A pretrial conference for that case is scheduled for Thursday.

The son of John Mellencamp and his third wife, Elaine Irwin, Hud Mellencamp walked on to Duke's team in 2012. He has yet to appear in a game for the Blue Devils.
