Henderson State placed on probation for women's basketball violations
Division II school Henderson State has been placed on probation for two years for a series of rules infractions committed by the women's basketball team, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Henderson State initially self-imposed several penalties, including probation, in 2012 after an inquiry into violations. On Tuesday, the NCAA Division II Committee on Infractions extended the probationary period to 2016, fined the school $2,500 and issued show-cause orders for two former head coaches. HSU also self-imposed a penalty of scholarship reductions for 2013-14 in 2012.
The school committed a number of violations, including failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance. A former coach also broke recruiting rules, offering a loan to a prospect and providing "impermissible" meals. The school also exceeded the number of permitted text messages to recruits, among other violations.
Henderson State is located in Arkadelphia, Ark. The team went 13-14 last season.
