Wisconsin AD Alvarez: LSU, 'Bama not interested in home-and-home series
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said SEC powers Alabama and LSU shot down attempts to arrange home-and-home series, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.
Alvarez said he wanted Wisconsin to play LSU at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., in 2014, with the Badgers hosting the Tigers at Camp Randall in Madison, Wisc., in 2016.
“They weren’t interested,” he said.
What was the rationale?
“They wouldn’t tell you why,” Alvarez said. “They just weren’t interested.”
Wisconsin will take on LSU at NRG Stadium in Houston this season and Lambeau Field in Green Bay in 2016.
Alvarez also said Alabama, whom Wisconsin is scheduled to play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., in September 2015, was not interested in a home-and-home series.
“I’d love to do it,” he said. “I’ve approached a lot of those (SEC) schools. I have one that we’re talking to for a home-and-home, but we’re just in the infant stages of it.”
With the selection committee of the new College Football Playoff expected to consider schedule strength among its criteria, some major conference teams are attempting to beef up their non-conference schedules.
