Joe Hampton, a heralded power forward in the class of 2016, verbally committed to Penn State in an announcement on Twitter Saturday.

Hampton also drew scholarship offers from DePaul and Xavier. He is the first player in the class of 2016 to commit to Penn State.

The 6-foot-7, 247-pound Hampton is the top-ranked player in Maryland and the No. 60 player in the class of 2016, according to the recruiting website Rivals.com.

Hampton, whom Rivals.com assigned a four-star rating, is transferring from DeMatha Catholic High School in Washington D.C. to prep power Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

Penn State has three players committed in the class of 2015, including two ranked in the top 150 of Rivals.com's player rankings.
