South Carolina sophomore cornerback Jamari Smith will miss the upcoming season after breaking his foot during a scrimmage, the school announced Monday.
Smith moved from running back to cornerback during fall camp last year, but rushed for 108 yards on 14 carries after he was switched back to running back during the season.

Smith, who moved back to cornerback again during spring practice, was expected to compete for playing time in the secondary this season.
The Gamecocks, ranked ninth in the preseason AP Poll, open the season Aug. 28 against Texas A&M.
