Jeff Lindquist named Washington's starting QB for season opener

Washington sophomore quarterback Jeff Lindquist will start the team's Aug. 30 season opener against Hawaii, Huskies coach Chris Petersen announced Friday.

Washington sophomore quarterback Jeff Lindquist will start the team's Aug. 30 season opener against Hawaii, Huskies coach Chris Petersen announced Friday.

Lindquist, who attempted two passes over three games last season, beat out redshirt freshman Troy Williams.

The Mercer Island (Wash.) High product was rated the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2012.

Tanner McEvoy named Wisconsin starting QB

Sophomore Cyler Miles was considered a strong candidate to win the starting job but is suspended for the season opener after being linked to an assault of two Seahawks fans following the Super Bowl. Miles faces no charges and was reinstated in May. He is allowed to return for Washington's Sept. 6 game against Eastern Washington.

“You can make a case for all those guys (to start),” Petersen said. “You really can. It’s probably going to be splitting hairs when it comes down to it, really.”​

In a preseason media poll, the Huskies were picked to finish third, behind Oregon and Stanford, in the Pac-12 North division.
