Louisville receiver DeVante Parker out six to eight weeks with broken foot

Louisville receiver DeVante Parker injured his left foot in practice Friday. The exact nature and severity of Parker's injury are unknown.

Louisville receiver DeVante Parker will miss six to eight weeks after he broke a bone in his left foot, head coach Bobby Petrino announced Monday.

Parker sustained the injury in practice on Friday. He will undergo surgery Monday in Charlotte, likely to be performed by specialist Dr. Bob Anderson.

Willie Parker, the receiver's grandfather, told the Louisville Courier-Journal that DeVante was doing "pretty much OK" with the news of the injury as of Sunday night. The given timeframe could put Parker back as early as the Cardinals' game against Syracuse on Oct. 3, or as late as their game against Florida State on Oct. 30.

Parker, a Louisville native, caught 55 passes for 885 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior last season. The 6-foot-3, 211-pounder considered leaving early for the NFL draft but elected to return for his senior season.

Louisville, which is entering its first year in the ACC, opens the season Sept. 1 against Miami. The Cardinals announced Sunday that redshirt sophomore Will Gardner will be their starting quarterback.
