North Texas Mean Green vs. Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns open up the 2014 season at home against the North Texas Mean Green. North Texas is coming off one of the better seasons in school history in 2013, when it went 9-4 and won the Heart of Dallas Bowl over UNLV. Under Mack Brown, Texas finished last season 8-5 overall, including a 30-7 loss to Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. Saturday will mark Charlie Strong's debut at Texas.

This will be Charlie Strong's first game as head coach. Strong was hired in January from Louisville.

The Longhorns have never lost in nine games against North Texas. Their last meeting was in 2006.

Texas brings back starters at 12 positions: five on offense, seven on defense.

Texas has won 14 straight home openers. Strong won three of his four season openers at Louisville. 

David Ash returns at quarterback after missing the majority of last season with a concussion. In 2012, Ash finished 15th in the FBS in completion 
percentage.

Running backs Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray return as well. Both had over 100 carries last season. 

Strong and North Texas head coach Dan McCarney were together on the University of Florida staff in 2008 and 2009.

Nine different Longhorns players were chosen to preseason watch lists, including Brown, Grey, and Cedric Reed. 

Eight of Texas' games this season will be against teams that reached a bowl game in 2013. 

The Longhorns have four sets of brothers on their roster.
