The Ohio Bobcats finished last season with a 7-6 record after losing to East Carolina in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl. To start off the 2014 season, Ohio will travel to Dix Stadium to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes, who finished 2013 with a 4-8 mark.

Ohio head coach Frank Solich will be entering his 10th year leading the Bobcats. He has a 66-50 record since taking over the team. The Bobcats are 5-4 in season openers under Solich.

With a win over Kent State, the Bobcats will earn their fourth win in a season opener in the past five years and their first win in Kent, Ohio, since 2008.

The Ohio defense returns eight starters on a defense which recorded 36 sacks a year ago.

The Bobcats have played in five straight bowl games. There are only 21 programs in the nation who have played in five straight postseason games.

Ohio will be beginning its 120th year as a football program with its 67th meeting against Kent State.

Kent State Golden Flashes facts:

Kent State has won four of the last five matchups against Ohio. The Golden Flashes won the previous meeting 44-13, but Ohio leads the all-time series 39-25-2.

Head coach Paul Haynes is entering his second season leading the Golden Flashes.

The Golden Flashes defense gave up just two touchdowns over the course of their last three games. Opponents averaged 228 yards of offense and 11.7 points. 

Kent State's captains for 2014 are seniors WR Chris Humphrey, TE Casey Pierce, DL Nate Vance and junior S Jordan Italiano.

Kent State will be wearing a No. 54 decal on their helmets all season to honor former starting center Jason Bitsko, who passed away earlier this month.
