The College of Charleston has hired Clemson assistant Earl Grant as its head coach, the school announced Tuesday

Charleston fired head coach Doug Wojcik on Aug. 5, following allegations of verbal abuse. The school then reportedly considered re-hiring ex-Cougars coach Bobby Cremins.

Wofford head coach Mike Young and former NBA guard Anthony Johnson, a Charleston alum, reportedly removed themselves from consideration last week.

Report: Herb Sendek to sign three-year extension​

Grant had been an assistant at Clemson since 2010, where he was the staff's primary recruiter. "Grant personally signed 10 of Clemson’s 15 players recruited by [head coach Brad] Brownell’s staff," a release from the Charleston athletic department said.

Prior to his time at Clemson, Grant coached for six years under Gregg Marshall, first with Winthrop, and later at Wichita State.

Grant is a native of North Charleston, S.C., and played collegiately for Division-II Georgia College.
