Colorado State head coach rips Denver mayor for name gaffe
Colorado State defeated Colorado Friday for the second time in three years. After the game, Denver mayor Michael Hancock presented the Centennial Cup to Rams head coach Jim McElwain, but called him "Coach McIntyre" instead.
McElwain took the microphone to correct Hancock's mistake and addressed the incident at his post game press conference.
"The mayor doesn't even know the head ball coach's name," McElwain said. "I guess that really shows where we are...as a program. Boy, that really makes you feel good. The guy giving you the trophy can't spit your name out? Shows you how much they care about Colorado State, right?"
Jim McElwain signs five-year extension with Colorado State
McElwain is in his third season as head coach of the Rams. Colorado State finished third in the Mountain West Conference's Mountain division last season.
