Shannon, a junior linebacker, was suspended for the entire season on Aug. 11 for violating the school’s Title IX sexual misconduct policy. Shannon was accused of sexually assaulting a female student at his off-campus apartment in January.

A Cleveland County District Judge had issued a stay allowing the junior to remain enrolled at the university and part of the football team, a decision that the Supreme Court ruled against on Monday. 

The court also ruled that the documents in the case are to remained sealed.

Shannon had been fighting the suspension, and his attorney, Aletia Timmons, said recently that Shannon was being made a "scapegoat" by Oklahoma. 

The junior led the team with 92 tackles last season, including seven for loss. He did not appear in either of Oklahoma's first two games this season while on stay. 

Sooners freshman running back Joe Mixon was also suspended for the season in August after being charged in an assault case.
