Connecticut starting quarterback Casey Cochran will no longer play football due to a history of concussions, the school announced Monday. 

Texas QB David Ash out indefinitely due to concussion symptoms​

Cochran was concussed in the Huskies' season opener against BYU. According to John F. Silver of SNY, it was the first concussion Cochran suffered in a game, but he had a history of sustaining concussions during training. 

UConn head coach Bob Diaco said in a statement that Cochran will pursue a career in coaching. 

NCAA restores Penn State's postseason eligibility, scholarships​

Redshirt senior Chandler Whitmer started in place of Cochran in Saturday's win over Stony Brook. He completed 12 of 27 passes for 142 yards with a touchdown. Whitmer started all 12 games for the Huskies in 2012, leading them to a 5-7 record. 

Sophomore Tim Boyle is the only other scholarship quarterback eligible to play this season.
