Report: Arizona State commit Jordan Washington arrested for theft
Arizona State University commit Jordan Washington was arrested this week for allegedly shoplifting less than $20 in DVDs from a Walmart in Iowa, according to The Ottumwa Post.
The 6-foot-8, 255-pound big man reportedly attempted to make off with "Curse of Chucky" and "Taken," DVDs with a total value of $17.84. He was subsequently charged with fifth-degree theft and jailed but his bond of $300 was paid and he was released approximately an hour later.
As a freshman last year at Indian Hills Community College, Washington averaged 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. His coach at the program, Barret Peery, is now an assistant on the coaching staff at ASU.
Indian Hills issued the following statement regarding the incident, according to the report:
"The Indian Hills administration and coaching staff are aware of Jordan’s arrest. He has been suspended from basketball activities until the matter is resolved. We are still in the process of gathering facts ourselves and we know the legal system will need to process his case. When that is finished, a decision will be made as to the discipline Jordan will receive.”
