Vanderbilt reveals new, legal uniforms for South Carolina game

The Vanderbilt football team will wear a new jersey against South Carolina after its original jersey was deemed illegal earlier this season.

In the team's season opener, the Commodores were penalized a timeout for having "Anchor Down" on their jerseys' nameplates. After showing referees an email from the NCAA, the officials reversed their decision and gave Vanderbilt its timeout back.

After the game, the Southeastern Conference released a statement saying the jerseys were illegal. Only the military academies are allowed to have anything other than player names on their nameplates, according to NCAA rules.

Vanderbilt has opened the season 1-2 under first-year head coach Derek Mason. The Commodores will host the No. 14 Gamecocks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
