Utah State Aggies quarterback Chuckie Keeton is likely out for the season after suffering a left knee injury vs. Wake Forest in the middle of September, according to a press release issued by the team.
The devastating injury is to the same knee operated on last season after he sustained a torn ACL and MCL.
The Aggies won the game vs. Wake Forest last month but lost the next game vs. Arkansas State, which Keeton sat out.
Head coach Matt Wells said in the statement it's "unlikely that he will play in any games in the foreseeable future."
“Chuckie’s health is our top priority and he has not been cleared to play by our medical staff. We will continue to monitor his progress throughout the fall, but given his current condition it is unlikely that he will play in any games in the foreseeable future.”
Since he's a senior, it's unclear whether he can use a medical red-shirt.
In his place, Darell Garretson will become the Aggies quarterback. Last season, while also filling in for Keeton, Garretson threw for 1,436 yards and 10 touchdowns in a year that ended with a loss in the Mountain West Conference championship game to Fresno State.
• Maryland QB C.J. Brown a game-time decision vs. Ohio State
The Aggies are 2-2 so far this year.
Utah State plays BYU on Friday, the team the Aggies played last season when Keeton suffered his first season-ending injury.
