Database shows Nick Saban's $6.9 million salary tops among coaches
Nick Saban has done a lot of winning while the coach at Alabama, and he's paid handsomely as a reward.
Saban's $6.9 million in base compensation this season, part of a new contract the 62-year-old agreed to this spring, leads all other coaches, as found in a new head coach salary database compiled by Newsday.
The newspaper created the database through Freedom of Information Act requests made to all 108 public universities in Division I-FBS. It includes all available information about each coach's contract, including 2014 base salary, contract length, conference championship bonuses and all other incentives. (Not all categories are complete for each coach.)

Georgia coach Mark Richt comes in behind Saban with $5.48 million in base compensation this season. Oklahoma's Bob Stoops is next with $5.25 million, followed by Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Texas's Charlie Strong at $5 million each.
