Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was informed in a letter from school officials on Friday that he faces a disciplinary hearing regarding sexual assault allegations against him, according to a report from ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach.

Winston, the reigning winner of the Heisman Trophy, is alleged to have raped a female Florida State student in December 2012.

The lawyer for Winston's accuser, John Clune, told USA Today Sports that a third party would hear the case.

"We know nothing about what the hearing process is going to be, the right to call witnesses, if there's going to be witnesses called or if it's going to be this third party interviewing all the people," Clune told the paper. "We just have no details of what this is going to look like." 

Winston's lawyer, David Cornwell, tweeted about the hearing process on Friday night.

"FSU creates new procedures 2 investigate the false allegations," he tweeted. "Declines to charge Jameis w/ a violation of Code of Student Conduct.#1ststep"

The Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights is investigating Florida State as the school continues its inquiry into the allegations against Winston. The department's guidelines require schools receiving federal funds to investigate known allegations of sexual violence and that "a criminal investigation does not relieve your school of its duty under Title IX to respond promptly and effectively." 

State attorney Willie Meggs announced last December that Winston would not be charged.
