Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan and Michigan State renew their intra-state rivalry on Saturday for the schools' 107th meeting. The Wolverines come in off a bye at 3-4 after beating Penn State 18-13 in their last game, while the Spartans are 6-1 after defeating Indiana 56-17 last week.

Michigan State has dominated the rivalry recently, blowing out Michigan 29-6 last season and winning five of the past six games in the series. The Wolverines' point total in the rivalry has declined each season since 2004.

Oct. 11: Michigan 18, Penn State 13

The win moved Michigan to 3-0 in the three night games played in Michigan Stadium history. The defense had six sacks of Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg, the program's most since the 2008 season opener. Kicker Matt Wile made a career-high three field goals.

Oct. 4:Rutgers 26, Michigan 24

With the loss, Michigan fell to 0-2 in the Big Ten for the first time since the 1967 season. Wolverines quarterback Devin Gardner returned to the starting lineup and produced 178 passing yards and 40 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns. The 2-4 start to the season is Michigan's worst since the 2008 season, when the Wolverines started 2-7 and finished with a 3-9 record. 

Sept. 27: Minnesota 30, Michigan 14

The Wolverines lost the Little Brown Jug for the first time in six years. Michigan was held to 171 yards total offense and was outgained for the first time this season. This marked the first time Michigan lost three games before October in its 135-year program history. 

Sept. 20: Utah 26, Michigan 10

The game was delayed for nearly two and a half hours in the fourth quarter by heavy rain and lightning. Most fans never returned, and neither team scored for the remainder of the game. Michigan committed four turnovers, including two interceptions by Devin Gardner. 

Sept. 13: Michigan 34, Miami (OH) 10

The Wolverines improved to 6-0 all-time against the RedHawks. Michigan also continued its success in the red zone, keeping up a 100 percent scoring rate with eight touchdowns and two field goals. Miami's 33 rushing yards were the fewest allowed by Michigan since holding Bowling Green to 32 rushing yards in 2010.

Sept. 6: Notre Dame 31, Michigan 0

The Wolverines' record of 365 consecutive games without being shut out was snapped. It was the first time Michigan had been shut out since a 26-0 loss at Iowa in 1984. Quarterback Devin Gardner's streak of 172 consecutive pass attempts without an interception ended in the third quarter. He committed four turnovers in the second half. 

Aug. 30: Michigan 52, Appalachian State 14

Tackle Mason Cole became the first true freshman ever to start a season opener on the offensive line for Michigan. Quarterback Devin Gardner was 13-of-14 for 173 yards and three touchdowns. His 92.3 completion percentage was the second-best in school history for a single game with a minimum of 10 attempts. Derrick Green and De'Veon Smith each had their first career 100-yard rushing game. Green had 170 yards on 15 carries while Smith finished with 115 yards on eight attempts.

Oct. 18: Michigan State 56, Indiana 17

The Spartans tied a school record with their eighth-straight Big Ten road win. Michigan State rushed for 330 yards, marking the first time the team rushed for over 300 yards in a Big Ten game since 2007. Running back Nick Hill had 16 carries for 178 yards, both of which were career highs.

Oct. 11: Michigan State 45, Purdue 31

The Spartans earned their fifth win of the season in Week 7. Jeremy Langford rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries and Connor Cook finished the game 19-of-37 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns. With the game close late at 41-38 and Purdue threatening, Darien Harris sealed the win for Michigan State with a 15-yard interception return for a score. 

Oct. 4: Michigan State 27, Nebraska 22

The Spartans have averaged 45.6 points through their first five games, the highest total through five games in school history. Michigan State's defense held Nebraska to its lowest rushing total (47 yards) since 2007. Redshirt senior safety Kurtis Drummond had a season-high nine tackles.

Sept. 27: Michigan State 56, Wyoming 14

Connor Cook threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 8-of-12 passing. Out of the backfield, Jeremy Langford rushed for 137 yards on 16 carries with one score. The Michigan State defense forced three turnovers and the Spartans held possession for more than 10 minutes longer than the Cowboys. 

Sept. 20: Michigan State 73, Eastern Michigan 14

The 73 points scored by the Spartans were their third-most since 1946 and their most since hanging 76 on Northwestern in 1989. Michigan State’s seven rushing touchdowns were its most since scoring 10 TDs on the ground, a school record, also against Northwestern in 1989. Tony Lippett scored two touchdowns on three catches and Delton Williams rushed for three scores. 

Sept. 6: Oregon 46, Michigan State 27

Michigan State’s 11-game winning streak was snapped in the loss. Quarterback Connor Cook had career highs in passing yards (343), completions (29) and attempts (47). Tony Lippett had a career-high 11 receptions for 133 yards.

Aug. 29: Michigan State 45, Jacksonville State 7

The Spartans improved to 79-36-3 all-time in season openers. Tony Lippett had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, finishing with 167 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions. The game was just the 15th night game in the 91-year history of Spartan Stadium.
