Texas A&M will wear 1939 throwback uniforms on Saturday for its game against Louisiana-Monroe, the team announced Wednesday

The Adidas uniforms honor the ones worn during the Aggies' 1939 season, when they went 11-0 and were named national champions by AP voters. The jerseys have a patch commemorating the 1939 team, and the dark maroon helmets feature graphics "created using high-resolution photographs of an actual helmet worn by the 1939 team."

According to the school, each individual helmet took more than six staff hours to create. From the A&M release:

Each helmet shell carries a stenciled AMC brand, referencing the "Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas" as Texas A&M was known in 1939, on the rear portion of the helmet just as the original version did 75 years ago. This brand signifies each helmet was custom-made for Texas A&M.

The cleats were also designed in a throwback style with "premium tumbled leather upper and metal eyelets."

The Aggies (5-3) host Louisiana-Monroe (3-4) at Kyle Field on Saturday.
