Michigan State Spartans vs. Maryland Terrapins

Michigan State travels to Maryland on Saturday in Week 12. The Spartans are coming off a 49-37 home loss to Ohio State. It was Michigan State's first loss since Sept. 6 and it dropped the team's record to 7-2 on the season. Maryland is coming off a bye. In their last game, the Terps defeated Penn State 20-19 on a late field goal. Maryland is 6-3 on the season. 

The two schools are meeting for the first time since 1950.

Michigan State

11/8: Ohio State 49, Michigan State 37

The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Spartans. Michigan State led 14-7 after the first quarter but the Buckeyes scored 21 points in the second. Connor Cook passed for 358 yards and two touchdowns, and Jeremy Langford rushed for three scores on the ground. 

10/25: Michigan State 35, Michigan 11

Running back Jeremy Langford carried the ball 35 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Connor Cook added 227 yards and a touchdown through the air. The Spartans intercepted Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner twice and limited him to 125 passing yards.

10/18: Michigan State 56, Indiana 17

The Spartans tied a school record with their eighth straight Big Ten road win. Michigan State rushed for 330 yards, marking the first time the team rushed for over 300 yards in a Big Ten game since 2007. Running back Nick Hill had 16 carries for 178 yards, both of which were career highs.

10/11: Michigan State 45, Purdue 31

The Spartans earned their fifth win of the season in Week 7. Jeremy Langford rushed for 104 yards on 13 carries and Connor Cook finished the game 19-of-37 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns. With the game close late at 41-38 and Purdue threatening, Darien Harris sealed the win for Michigan State with a 15-yard interception return for a score. 

10/4: Michigan State 27, Nebraska 22

The Spartans have averaged 45.6 points through their first five games, the highest total through five games in school history. Michigan State's defense held Nebraska to its lowest rushing total (47 yards) since 2007. Redshirt senior safety Kurtis Drummond had a season-high nine tackles.

9/27: Michigan State 56, Wyoming 14

Connor Cook threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 8-of-12 passing. Out of the backfield, Jeremy Langford rushed for 137 yards on 16 carries with one score. The Michigan State defense forced three turnovers, and the Spartans held possession for more than 10 minutes longer than the Cowboys. 

9/20: Michigan State 73, Eastern Michigan 14

The 73 points scored by the Spartans were their third-most since 1946 and their most since hanging 76 on Northwestern in 1989. Michigan State’s seven rushing touchdowns were its most since scoring 10 TDs on the ground, a school record, also against Northwestern in 1989. Tony Lippett scored two touchdowns on three catches and Delton Williams rushed for three scores. 

9/6: Oregon 46, Michigan State 27

Michigan State’s 11-game winning streak was snapped in the loss. Quarterback Connor Cook had career highs in passing yards (343), completions (29) and attempts (47). Tony Lippett had a career-high 11 receptions for 133 yards.

8/29: Michigan State 45, Jacksonville State 7

The Spartans improved to 79-36-3 all-time in season openers. Tony Lippett had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career, finishing with 167 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions. The game was just the 15th night game in the 91-year history of Spartan Stadium.

Maryland

11/1: Maryland 20, Penn State 19

Maryland won on a 43-yard field goal by Brad Craddock with 51 seconds remaining. The Terps forced three Penn State fumbles and William Likely also grabbed an interception. C.J. Brown threw for 161 yards and a touchdown. 

10/25: Maryland 7, Wisconsin 52

The Terps did not score until there was a minute left in the game, when C.J. Brown threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs. It was the fewest points Maryland scored in a game all season. Diggs added 138 yards on five kick returns. 

10/18: Iowa 31, Maryland 38

C.J. Brown threw for 120 yards and two interceptions and missed part of the game due to injury. Perry Hills came in and completed 5-of-10 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Stefon Diggs had nine catches for 130 yards and a score. 

10/4: Ohio State 52, Maryland 24

Maryland allowed 533 yards of total offense to the Buckeyes, including 264 yards through the air and 269 yards on the ground. The Terrapins turned the ball over four times, and Maryland controlled possession for fewer than 24 minutes in the game. Maryland kicker Brad Craddock connected on a 57-yard field goal for the Terps' first scoring play of the day. 

9/27: Maryland 37, Indiana 15

The Terrapins gained 484 yards of total offense and did not commit a turnover during their first victory as a member of the Big Ten. The quarterback duo of Caleb Rowe and C.J. Brown combined to convert 22 of their 33 pass attempts for 361 yards, and running back Brandon Ross averaged more than 10 yards per carry on the ground. 

9/20: Maryland 34, Syracuse 20

The Terps were outgained by 220 yards, but Maryland took advantage of two Syracuse turnovers in the victory. William Likely returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown to give Maryland a 31-13 advantage, and quarterback C.J. Brown completed 16-of-26 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns. 

9/13: West Virginia 40, Maryland 37

Maryland allowed the Mountaineers to accumulate 694 yards of total offense, including 511 passing yards from QB Clint Trickett. The Terps did gain 447 yards, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown run from quarterback C.J. Brown, but Maryland failed to capitalize on a 4-1 advantage in the turnover margin. 

9/6: Maryland 24, South Florida 17

The Terrapins committed six turnovers, but the defense slowed USF's offense to only 257 total yards. C.J. Brown threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and Wes Brown led the running game with 61 yards on 13 carries.

8/30: Maryland 52, James Madison 7

Maryland outgained James Madison by a margin of 471-302 and forced former Georgia Tech QB Vad Lee into several mistakes, including three total team turnovers. The Terrapins were dominant on the ground, rushing for 285 yards, and they possessed the ball for nearly 34 of the 60 minutes.
