Tennessee to honor ex-Vol Eric Berry on Saturday
Tennessee football plans to honor former Vols player and current Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry at its game against Vanderbilt on Saturday, according to the Tennessean.
The Chiefs recently placed Berry on the non-football injury/illness list after a mass was discovered on the right side of his chest. He has not yet been given a definite diagnosis but will see a lymphoma specialist in Atlanta. Lymphoma is the current leading consideration for his condition.
According to the Tennessean, head coach Butch Jones said the Vols have been in "constant dialogue and communication" with the Berry family. Berry has two brothers, Evan and Elliott, who currently play at Tennessee.
"Their teammates have been there for them," Jones said. "It’s been family coming together."
Exact plans for what the Vols will do to honor Berry have not been determined, but Jones said he expects to know more later in the week.
Berry played three seasons at Tennessee and won 2008 SEC Defensive Player of the Year. He was a two-time unanimous All-American.
