Because conference champion George Southern is not eligible to play in a bowl this season, UL-Lafayette, Arkansas State and South Alabama will play in the bowls with Sun Belt Conference affiliations, ESPN's Brett McMurphy reports.

Georgia Southern and Appalachian State, which finished third, are not eligible as they transition from the Football Championship Subdivision to the Football Bowl Subdivision. The Sun Belt selected the three schools to play in the bowls.

UL-Lafayette will play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 20 against a Mountain West Conference team. The Rajin' Cajuns finished 8-4 on the season, including a 7-1 mark in conference play. They had a five-game winning streak before losing to Appalachian State two weeks ago.

Arkansas State was selected to play in the Go Daddy Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 4 against a Mid-American Conference team. The Red Wolves beat New Mexico State last week to finish the regular season 7-5 and 5-3 in conference play.

South Alabama will face a Mid-American Conference team in the Camellia Bowl on Dec. 20 in Montgomery, Ala. The Jaguars ended the season with losses to South Carolina and Navy and finished 6-6.
