Oregon coach Mark Helfrich: CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu will miss playoff

Oregon starting cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu is believed to have suffered a serious knee injury during practice on Tuesday, according to a report from Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports.

Getlin added that the Ducks are concerned the injury is a torn ACL.

A separate report from Comcast Sports Net characterized the injury as severe and said that Ekpre-Olomu will miss the rest of the season.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich confirmed on Thursday that Ekpre-Olomu will not participate in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

Over 13 games this season, Ekpre-Olomu has recorded 63 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups while helping the Ducks rank third in the Pac-12 in passing efficiency defense.

He was one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive back. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound senior also earned a spot on SI.com's All-America team. 

The No. 2 Ducks (12-1) are slated to face No. 3 Florida State (13-0) in the Rose Bowl, one of two semifinals for playoff. Ekpre-Olomu was expected to line up against Rashad Greene, the Seminoles' leading receiver.

In his latest 2015 mock draft, SI.com's Chris Burke projects Ekpre-Olomu to be selected with the No. 21 overall pick.
