San Diego State F Dwayne Polee II collapses on court, taken to hospital
San Diego State forward Dwayne Polee II collapsed on the court during the Aztecs' game against UC Riverside on Monday.
Wiht 11:08 remaining in the first half, Polee was chasing his man on defense when he suddenly fell to the court, apparently unconscious.
From the San Diego Union-Tribune:
Officials quickly stopped the game, and coach Steve Fisher rushed on the court. Polee’s parents soon followed out of the stands while someone screamed, “Call 9-1-1.”
Paramedics responded quickly, lifting Polee’s jersey and attaching equipment to his chest. After about 15 minutes on the floor, he was lifted onto a yellow gurney and taken through the tunnel to an ambulance. His teammates came off the bench to console him as he left.
Viejas Arena was silent except for a brief moment when fans sang, “Polee, Polee, Polee” – the usual chant after he makes a 3-pointer.
The team later announced that Polee was conscious when he was taken off the floor and that he was being transported to a local hospital, where he was "completely responsive."
It's unknown what may have caused Polee to collapse.
Polee, a senior, was averaging 9.2 points and three rebounds per game this season entering Monday's game.
