Former Texas Tech defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is expected to join new Buffalo coach Lance Leipold’s staff in the same position according to a source.

Scott would replace Chris Cosh, who left last month to become defensive coordinator at North Texas. Scott resigned as Texas Tech’s defensive line coach on Dec. 6.

Prior to Scott’s stint in Lubbock, he coached defensive line and special teams at Georgia Southern for three seasons. In 2009, he was defensive line coach at Missouri State and coached the same position the year before at his alma matter, Western Carolina.

He was also defensive ends and outside linebackers coach at Western Carolina from 2006-07. He coached defensive line at Norfolk State in 2005.

Scott got his start in coaching in 2001 at West Davidson High School in Lexington, N.C. as a defensive line coach before spending three years as a graduate assistant at Louisiana-Lafayette. He was a defensive lineman at Western Carolina who went on to play in the Af2 and CFL.

Scott joins Leipold, who last month won his sixth NCAA Division III national championship at Wisconsin-Whitewater. In his eight seasons at the school, he had a record of 109-6 and in October became the fastest coach in NCAA history to reach 100 wins.
