Lauren Hill, the college basketball player whose battle with terminal brain cancer has garnered nationwide attention and support, was honored on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

Rep. Luke Messer (R-IN) shared with Congress Hill's desire to play college basketball and her success in raising $1 million for brain cancer research. Hill, a freshman at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnatiplayed in four games before ending her playing career last month.

“I commend Lauren for her continued courage and applaud the steps she's taken to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer," Messer said. “Lauren, you make your community, state and your country proud.”

Hill scored 10 points in her four games this season after doctors told her this fall she would likely not live past December. Mount St. Joseph petitioned the NCAA to move the team's first game to an earlier date to allow Hill to play.

After her first game, Hill gave her jersey to Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Devon Still, whose four-year-old daughter Leah has also faced a public battle with cancer. Hill and Still first met in October and both have been raising money for pediatric cancer research.
