Lauren Hill's team held its end-of-season banquet in hospital
Lauren Hill's Mount Saint Joseph teammates held their end-of-season banquet at the hospital so she could attend, WKRC Cincinnati reports.
Hill, who has inoperable brain cancer, scored in her first college basketball game last November. She played in four games on the season and also scored in her first home game in December.
On Tuesday, Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced Hill as a recipient of the Governor's Courage Award, WLWT Cincinatti reports. The award was accepted on her behalf by a representative from The Cure Starts Now, which focuses on pediatric brain cancer.
Hill, 19, has raised more than $1 million in donations towards pediatric cancer research. She entered hospice care in December.
During the banquet on Tuesday, head coach Dan Benjamin said Hill's presence transcended basketball for the team. Hill also told WKRC what she hopes people take away from her battle.
"Day by day, I hope my message has resided through everyone — that just even more that it's precious every amount of time you get with someone, no material item matters," Hill said. "Every moment you get with someone is a moment that [is] blessed, really blessed."
Hill also signed all of her teammates' jerseys.
