Five-star 2016 recruit Saivion Smith commits to LSU

Five-star athlete Saivion Smith, the top-ranked safety in the Class of 2016, committed to LSU on Tuesday, according to ESPN.
ESPN's Gerry Hamilton projects Smith as a defensive back at the collegiate level, likely at corner.
Smith is 6'2" and 175 pounds and ranked as the No. 21 player in the country by Rivals and No. 6 player in Florida. He had 67 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles last season and has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game next year.

The commitment comes one week after the Tigers lost out on top-ranked dual threat quarterback Shea Patterson, who committed to Ole Miss.
Smith is the seventh 2016 player to commit to Les Miles and LSU and the first five-star. Besides Smith, the Tigers already have commitments from five four-star recruits, including quarterback Feleipe Franks, wide receiver Stephen Sullivan and tight end Jamal Pettigrew.
Smith chose LSU after a weekend visit to Baton Rouge, selecting the Tigers over Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Ohio State and Texas, among others.
