Ohio State’s men’s basketball team was forced to land more than 100 miles from State College for their game on Wednesday against Penn State and take a bus through icy roads to get to their destination.

The team arrived at its hotel in State College at 1:30 a.m ET, more than eight hours after leaving Value City Arena in Columbus for the airport.

The plane landed in Latrobe, Pa., about 110 miles from State College because other area runways were covered in ice, according to Ohio State athletic department spokesman Dan Wallenberg.

"Stopped for a bit because of a wreck," Wallenberg wrote to the Columbus Dispatch during the team’s journey. "Dense fog, rain, mountain roads. Slow bus ride."

Penn State University closed its campus Wednesday for the first time in eight years but says the basketball game will go on as scheduled.

With a victory tonight, Ohio State coach Thad Matta would tie the school record for most victories at the school, with 297.

Ohio State (21-8, 10-6 Big Ten) defeated Penn State 75-55 on Feb. 11. The Nittany Lions (15-14, 3-13 Big Ten) have lost five in a row.
