Temple suspends two football players following assault arrest
Temple University has suspended two football players following their arrests stemming from an off-campus incident.
Junior offensive lineman Dion Dawkins and redshirt junior Haason Reddick, both 20, were charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, simple assault and reckless endangerment after an off-campus incident on Jan. 17. The aggravated assault charge is a felony.
The victim’s family told WPVI that he suffered a concussion and broken orbital bone in the attack and had to medically withdraw from school.
Dawkins and Reddick were arraigned on Tuesday and released after posting 10 percent of $10,000 bail each.
“Temple University is aware of allegations of improper conduct by two of its student-athletes at an off-campus location in January. The university has, and will continue, to fully cooperate with the Philadelphia Police Department in its investigation and will take appropriate actions outlined in the Student Conduct Code. The two students have been suspended from football team activities pending further investigation,” a statement from the university said.
Reddick, a Camden, N.J., native, played in nine games last season, while Dawkins, from Rahway, N.J., started on the offensive line and played in 11 games in 2014.
