The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department website indicates that bond was set at $1,000.
In August 2013, Smith was also arrested and charged with DUI, an offense that prompted a one-game suspension.
Smith, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., was vying to earn one of Alabama's starting safety spots.
Over 14 games last season, he recorded 56 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
