Reports: Chris Mullin accepts St. John's head coaching job

Former Red Storm star Chris Mullin has accepted the head coaching position at St. John's

A deal for former St. John's star Chris Mullin to officially return to the school as head coach is "done," according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman and other reports. 

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported Sunday that Mullin had been offered the job and was expected to accept, with an introductory press conference possibly scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.

On Friday, St. John's and head coach Steve Lavinmutually agreed to part ways after five seasons.

Mullin was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and played for the Red Storm from 1981 to 1985, graduating as the program's all-time leading scorer. He went on to be a five-time All-Star over a 16-year NBA career with the Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers.

The 51-year-old was the Warriors general manager from 2004 to 2009 and has served as an adviser in the Sacramento Kings' front office over the last couple seasons.

The Red Storm finished 21-12 this season and lost to San Diego State in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
