Video shows Bowling Green's Chris Jans slapping woman's buttocks
Special reporting by Michael McCann
INDIANAPOLIS—Bowling Green State University fired coach Chris Jans on Thursday after an internal investigation revealed the first-year coach exhibited drunken and inappropriate behavior at a local bar on March 21. The school received a video and email from an eyewitness showing Jans touching a woman on the buttocks and claiming he made a crude comment to a different woman.
The video and termination letter were obtained by SI.com on Thursday via an open records request.
His behavior toward another woman that night started a confrontation at the bar, according to the termination letter the school sent Jans.
Jans didn't return a text message from SI.com seeking comment.

The university conducted an investigation after it received an email on March 22 entitled, “BGSU Basketball Coach Inappropriate Conduct.” It accused Jans of being “sloppy drunk” and making inappropriate advances toward “several women.” The daughter of the letter writer, who is a student-athlete at a different school, confronted Jans because she felt his behavior was so inappropriate for a coach.
Jans’s termination letter said that he admitted publicly touching two women in a "way that attracted public attention.” He also admitted “patting the second woman on the buttocks at least once,” a scene that’s captured on the video. The letter also states that Jans admitted calling a third woman “a bitch,” which started a confrontation. The university claims in the letter that that because of “breach of comportment obligations” that the university doesn’t owe him any of the remaining money on his contract.
Jans signed a six-year deal worth $325,000 annually after being hired last year, meaning he had five years and more than $1.6 million remaining on his contract. Jans is married with two children.
