San Diego State forward Malik Pope will return for his sophomore season, the school announced on Wednesday.

Pope, who was rated a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, dealt with a leg injury early in the season.

He averaged 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 14.8 minutes per game while helping the Aztecs post a 27-9 record.

"After a long discussion with Malik and his family, and after receiving feedback from the NBA office, Malik has decided to return to San Diego State for his sophomore season." San Diego State coach Steve Fisher said. "He is very excited about improving his game and being part of a great team next season."

The scouting website DraftExpress ranked Pope No. 21 among college freshmen.
