The University of Texas filed two U.S. trademark applications last week related to head basketball coach Shaka Smart's catchphrase 'Havoc,' according to The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The applications seek to trademark the phrases “HORNS HAVOC” and “HOUSE OF HAVOC” to be used on clothing and apparel, the report said.

The term, coined by Smart, was used during his time as head coach of the Virginia Commonwealth basketball team to describe the Rams' disruptive style of play.

VCU had previously trademarked the word with the State Corporation Commission of Virginia. However, that trademark does not apply nationally.

Newly hired VCU coach Will Wade told reporters Wednesday he still intends to keep the 'Havoc' brand and emphasize a similar style of play.

Texas hired Smart on Apr. 2 after cutting ties with longtime head coach Rick Barnes last month.

Texas lost in the NCAA tournament's round of 64 to Butler. The Longhorns have not advanced past the round of 32 since 2008.
