Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg undergoing heart surgery on Friday
Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg will undergo open heart surgery on Friday.
The surgery, a procedure that will involve replacing his aortic valve, will take place at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
"After my initial surgery to replace my aortic root 10 years ago, I knew that this was something that would need to be done at some point," Hoiberg said in a statement last week.
"My valve has severe regurgitation and the time has come to get it replaced. I am hopeful that this will be my last surgery and I’m looking forward to getting this behind me."
The anticipated recovery time for the surgery is four-to-six weeks.
Over five seasons at Iowa State, Hoiberg has led the Cyclones to a 115-56 record with four NCAA tournament appearances.
In March, Iowa State won its second consecutive conference tournament championship.
