Report: Pittsburgh WR Tyler Boyd facing DUI charge
Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd is facing DUI charges after he was arrested early Friday morning in Jefferson Hills, Pa., reports KDKA in Pittsburgh.
Boyd was pulled over and taken into custody after he was pulled over on Route 885 in Jefferson Hills. Police paperwork obtained by KDKA said the officer who pulled Boyd over “smelled the moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage about Boyd.” The paperwork also said Boyd told the officer he “had ‘two shots’ but did not start drinking until after the NBA Finals game he was watching.”
Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors was played Thursday night.
Boyd, 20, was placed under arrest after taking a breathalyzer that tested positive for alcohol. After he was taken to Jefferson Hospital for a blood test, Boyd was released into the custody of a family member.
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi issued a statement on Boyd’s arrest on Saturday.
“Tyler’s situation is both serious and disappointing,” Narduzzi said. “We have high expectations for the young men in our program, on and off the field. Tyler understands that and knows he must be responsible for his actions. Certainly he will be held accountable to our internal standards of discipline and behavior.”
Boyd, a junior, appeared in 13 games for Pitt last season, catching 78 passes for 1,261 yards and eight touchdowns. SI.com selected him to the second team of its All-America list as an all-purpose player on special teams.
Over Boyd’s first two seasons with the Panthers, he has appeared in 26 games and caught 163 passes for 2,435 yards and 15 touchdowns.
