DA: Case against LSU's Jennings, two others could be dropped soon
A Baton Rouge, La. district attorney says charges are likely to be dropped against LSU junior quarterback Anthony Jennings and two teammates after an on-campus apartment break-in last month.
The victim, an LSU student, in the case asked East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III that the charges be dropped.
Moore says he wants to review transcripts of what the student told police, despite the request to have the charges dropped. The case will likely be resolved “fairly soon,” Moore said.
"I want to be able to explain it properly, to say, 'This is what I found out,' and put it to rest," Moore said.
Jennings, defensive lineman Maquedius Bain and defensive back Dwayne Thomas were charged with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and Thomas was booked with an additional charged with simple burglary after a June 12 incident. The players were suspended after being arrested.
According to authorities, the three players and at least three others destroyed locks and a door frame at a campus apartment, taking three pairs of shoes from the apartment.

Two days before being arrested, Jennings reported to campus police that a laptop computer, a Playstation 4 game console and three pairs of shoes were taken from his apartment.
Moore said that the issue in the case is whether the players were invited into the apartment not whether the players broke into the apartment.
“If this was a regular case, if it just involved a regular LSU student, you wouldn't have known it happened," Moore said to New Orleans Times-Picayune. "It would routinely be dismissed. I'm taking my time so we get it right."
Jennings started 12 of LSU's 13 games last season, throwing for 1,792 yards and 12 touchdowns. Thomas was a starting cornerback before he suffered a season-ending knee injury and Bain played in 10 games as a backup last season and made six tackles.
LSU starts the 2015 season on Sept. 5 against FCS opponent McNeese State.
