Arizona center Carter Wood will miss his redshirt senior season with a chronic foot injury, ending his career.

Arizona center Carter Wood will miss his redshirt senior season with a chronic foot injury, ending his career, he confirmed on Monday.

Wood dealt with foot issues over the past two seasons, and missed two practices last week before coach Rich Rodriguez announced he believed Wood's career may be over.

“It doesn't look like Carter is going to be able to play at all,” Rodriguez told the Arizona Daily Star on Saturday. “Carter, I don't know if he can play at all this season. I feel bad for him. Right now, it doesn't look good.”

Wood confirmed Rodriguez's concern on Instagram and Twitter on Monday. In the caption of a photo he wrote, “Although I will not be able to play my last season, I will help my teammates any other way I can. Although I will truly miss it I can't wait to see these guys have the successful season they have worked for all offseason!”

Wood was considered the favorite to earn the starting center job after serving as the primary backup to Steven Gurrola for the past two years. He played in 10 games over two seasons and earned his first career start in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State in 2014.

Arizona went 10–4 last season to finish first in the Pac 12 South.
