BYU linebacker Colby Jorgensen sustained a fractured neck in practice and underwent emergency surgery Tuesday, reports Jared Lloyd of the Provo Daily Herald.

BYU linebacker Colby Jorgensen sustained a fractured neck in practice and underwent emergency surgery Tuesday, reports Jared Lloyd of the Provo Daily Herald.

Jorgensen, a sophomore, underwent a CT scan and MRI on Tuesday, which revealed a slipped disk in addition to the fracture. By Tuesday night, Jorgensen was in the middle of a five-to-six hour surgery to place one rod in front and one in back of his neck, reports Lloyd.

“It was pretty close,” Colby's brother and former BYU linebacker Austen Jorgensen told the Daily Herald. “He's pretty lucky he didn't end up paralyzed.”

Colby Jorgensen signed with BYU in 2011, but went on a mission the next season. He got married just over a week ago.

“The big thing is getting a lot of prayers and sending love that way,” Jorgensen's brother Austen said. “But also I hope people feel free to reach out to him. You can feel pretty alone after the fact when you've been injured, so hopefully they'll check in and show the love.”
