Patrick Towles has been tabbed as Kentucky's starting quarterback over redshirt freshman Drew Barker, coach Mark Stoops announced on Monday morning.

In 2014, his first season as the Wildcats' starter, Towles completed 57.3% of his passes for 2,718 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Kentucky lost its final six games of the season and missed out on a bowl game.

Barker was a four-star recruit coming out of Conner High School and was ranked No. 5 among quarterbacks by Rivals in the recruiting class of 2014. He was redshirted last season after losing the starting job to Towles.

Kentucky will open the 2015 season against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 5 in Lexington, Ky. The Wildcats will then face three SEC opponents in South Carolina, Florida and Missouri. Last year, Kentucky went 2–6 in the SEC.
