Illinois dismisses forward Darius Paul following arrest
Illinois dismissed forward Darius Paul on Friday after his arrest last week for vandalizing cars and resisting an officer in France.
Paul, the brother of former Illinois guard Brandon Paul, was arrested on Aug. 14 while the Fighting Illini were in France for a team trip. The junior, who never played a game for Illinois, was charged with vandalism, public intoxication and resisting arrest after police responded to “multiple calls of Paul breaking windows and damaging windows.”
“Although his playing days here are over, we are committed to helping him move forward,” Illinois head coach John Groce said in a release by the school Friday night.
Paul transferred to Illinois after averaging 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds as a freshman for Western Michigan in 2012–13. He sat out the 2013–14 season and was later suspended for the 2014–2015 season for what Groce called “multiple trangressions.”

In April 2014, Paul was arrested for resisting a peace officer and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor.
