University of South Florida linebackers Nigel Harris and Tashon Whitehurst have been suspended for the first two games of the season for violating unspecified team rules in the spring, reports Jeff Odom of the Tampa Bay Times.

Harris, a 6'0", 220-pound junior from Tampa, was slated to be a second-string linebacker behind Whitehurst, a 6'3", 220-pound senior. Harris was suspended indefinitely in March, and did not play in the Bulls' spring game.

Harris had a breakout year in 2014, starting in all 11 games he played. He had 77 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss. Whitehurst started four games and played in 12, and had 49 tackles with 5.0 tackles for loss.

In Harris and Whitehurst's absence, redshirt freshman Jimmy Bayes, freshman Danny Thomas and senior C.J. Garye will compete to replace them.

USF's first two games of the season are against Florida A&M on Sept. 5 and Florida State on Sept. 12.
